PHP’s exciting new product, Eco-Noc (Nomu-Protec) based on the insect-pathogenic fungus Metarhizium (Nomuraea) rileyi, was awarded the Bernard Blum Silver Award for the second-ranked product in the prestigious IBMA Bernard Blum Award for Novel Biocontrol Solutions in Switzerland in October 2018.
The Bernard Blum Awards are presented in at the Annual General Assembly of the International Biocontrol Manufacturers Association (IBMA) in honour of the organization’s founder. Each year, an independent jury selects the three most outstanding innovative biocontrol products which provides an effective solution in the management of pests or diseases while having a low impact on human health and the environment.
Eco-Noc (African markets) or Nomu-Protec (International markets) is currently in the process of registration in several countries. It is based on the fungus Metarhizium rileyi (previously Nomuraea rileyi) that infects and controls lepidopteran insect pests, especially those from the Noctuidae family which includes economically harmful pests such as the fall armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda) and African bollworm (Helicoverpa armigera). Staple food crops such as maize, soybean and wheat, are targeted by these destructive pests. The impact of these pests has been highlighted by the recent devastating introduction of fall armyworm into Africa, with dire implications for food security. Eco-Noc (Nomu-Protec) is an ecologically sustainable and environmentally safe pest control solution which can be used within Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programs to suppress Noctuid pests in a variety of crops.
This will be the first product to use the species Metarhizium (Nomuraea) rileyi. Scientists at Plant Health Products have developed a unique formulation that prevents the fungal spores from drying out and enhances pest infection. In numerous field trials, Eco-Noc (Nomu-Protec) has proved to be very effective revealing a significant decrease in the pest population. Field trials show a significant decrease in pest population and effective reduction in feeding damage. This new product is non-toxic, has no withholding period, and is safe for non-target insects.
Eco-Noc (Nomu-Protec) is currently undergoing the external toxicological and eco-toxicological tests that are required for registration worldwide. PHP places great emphasis on abiding by the registration laws of the countries in which our products are sold. For more information on this product please contact PHP.
